About Black Chaunsa
Black Chaunsa (Kala Chaunsa) is the more intensely aromatic cousin of White Chaunsa. Its name comes from the distinctive dark brown-to-black patches that develop on the skin as the fruit ripens — a completely natural marking, never a sign of disease or damage, and prized by Multani mango lovers as a sign of a properly tree-ripened Chaunsa. Beneath that dusky skin is deep golden, custard-smooth flesh with a fine fibre that gives it body, and a fragrance that fills the room the moment you cut it. What surprises most people is the sweetness. On a refractometer Black Chaunsa reads 19-21° Brix — not the highest number in our orchard — yet it tastes sweeter than fruit that measures above it, because it carries almost no acidity to cut against the sugar. Nothing competes with the sweetness, so it lands heavier and lingers longer. The fine fibre works the same way: it gives the flesh real body, so a Black Chaunsa holds its texture in a shake or lassi instead of collapsing into water, and eats like a dessert off the spoon. Black Chaunsa arrives about a week after White Chaunsa Mosami and extends slightly later into the season, giving mango lovers a second, richer window of Chaunsa flavour. Every box is Multan-grown on MMA Farms' own blocks, hand-picked at the right maturity, and carbide-free.

Did You Know?
The dark patches that give Black Chaunsa its name are a cosmetic quirk of the skin only — they have no effect on the flesh inside, which is if anything richer and more aromatic than lighter-skinned Chaunsa. In Multan, experienced buyers actively seek out the dusky-skinned fruit.
Storage Tips for Black Chaunsa
Room Temperature
Keep unripe Black Chaunsa mangoes at room temperature (25-30 C) until fully ripe. Do not refrigerate unripe mangoes as cold stops the ripening process.
Refrigerated
Once ripe, store at 12-15°C for extended freshness. Ripe Black Chaunsa mangoes last 5-7 days at room temperature.
Ripeness Check
Gently press the mango — a ripe one gives slightly. You should also notice a sweet aroma near the stem when it is ready to eat.
Pro Tip
Wrap individual mangoes in newspaper and keep in a ventilated area for even, natural ripening. Avoid sealed plastic bags.
Black Chaunsa vs Other Mango Varieties
Choosing between Pakistani mango varieties is largely about texture, aroma, and season. Here is how Black Chaunsa compares.
White Chaunsa Mosami
Same Chaunsa lineage. Mosami has pale skin and a delicate, floral sweetness; Black Chaunsa has dusky-patched skin and a deeper, more aromatic, richer flavour. Both are Multan-grown; Mosami is silkier, Black Chaunsa has more body.
